When we hear or read that “Blockchain is going to be the next Internet,” there is a collective and almost mocking roll of the eyes.  Hyperbolic comparisons should be met with distrust, disbelief and perhaps simply comedic relief.  Did someone once say, “the internet is going to be the next television,” or “the Guttenberg Press is going to be the next Pony Express” or “Fire is going to be the next Sun.”

In a way, these are exaggerated forecasts born from heartfelt excitement from seeing something entirely new and different.  And aren’t we supposed to dream, and dream big.  Yes, but recognize that dreaming big devolves into visions of an SNL script when we hear such poorly proportioned predictions.

What we should do, instead, is take advantage of what the Internet offers: the opportunity to research detailed and genuine resources that can inform our perspective.

While we know no new innovation can be exactly like a previous discovery in many ways, we also can’t buy completely into counter comments that merely and solely bring attention to an individual, void of contribution to progress or the addition of new insights.   Who can forget the prominent NY Times economist who claimed in 1998 that the Internet would have almost zero influence on the economy and business, with “no greater impact than the fax machine.”

What we should do, instead, is take advantage of what the Internet offers: the opportunity to research primary resources that can inform our perspective.

And that, is our hope.  HigherEdBlockchain serves to bring information and awareness to Higher Education through open source highlights, news and research.  Our deep respect and hope for the future of colleges and universities means we strive to expedite the learning curve for innovation beyond its traditionally capacity.

Our vision is to provide the most recent information and insights that ignite curiosity, drive debate, inspire change and result in action that provides as much affordable access to quality higher learning and teaching, using the most aggressive, relevant tools possible.
